As I sit down to write a brief bio of my New Years resolutions and goals for 2010, I'm trying to really think about where I am, where I want to go, and how I am going to get there. I am a Mom. A "new" Mom. As with any new Mom, I've endured my fair share of sleepless nights and endless joy in the past 7.5 months.
Everyday I think about how I can be the best parent to Kaelyn that I can possibly be. One way I feel that I can fulfill my role as her Mother is to teach her how to live healthfully by showing her that her father and I live healthfully. This revelation came to me over the holiday season as we visited with our families and I realized that my parents always told me to eat healthy, exercise, etc. -- but never did it themselves. Sadly, my parents are both unhealthy eaters and grossly overweight now and I believe that their life-long unhealthy living habits are not allowing them to live their lives as they would want to live them. I have vowed that I would teach our daughter how to live a healthy lifestyle by living one myself. By walking the walk -- not just talking the talk. And I know that daily activity is a key component to a healthy lifestyle.
In 2010, I hope to integrate exercise and other types of activity back into my life with my daughter. Before I had Kaelyn, I had free time to schedule in going to the gym, running and walking with friends, and food shopping anytime I wanted too. Now that I have a daughter, a full-time job, and a house that needs more love than I can give it, my spare time for exercise is extremely limited. I am looking forward to a year filled with taking Kaelyn out for runs on the trails in our running stroller, hikes in the woods with our baby carrier, and walks in the parks while catching up with friends. Secretly, I hope that I can integrate Kaelyn into my working-out regiment so that I can train for 5Ks and 10Ks -- but I know I need to take it one step at a time (literally!).
I hope to have the opportunity to report back to Run Mom Run on a quarterly basis in 2010 that I have been true to my intentions of living a healthy and active lifestyle and teaching Kaelyn that exercise is part of the foundation for a healthy life. |
